SENIOR INFANTS CLASS
CLASS OF 2019 - 2020
Welcome to Ms Teahan's Senior Infants Blog!
We are settling in very well to our new class, Senior Infants! We have had a very busy first few months. In the month of September, we have been focusing on different types of homes and houses. Here we are pictured making different types of houses:
We also decided to make a Bug Hotel, to create a luxurious home for the creepy crawlies this Winter! We painted crates of wood and different colours and filled it with sticks, straws, flower pots and anything that we thought would make for a comfortable home. We cannot wait to
investigate who resides there! It is on the left of the shed in our wonderful School Garden, please feel free to visit it.
As part of our theme of Homes for the month of September, we enjoyed reading the Three Little Pigs story. For drama, we took on the roles of the different characters in the story, how they might have felt and why. For our Art lesson, we created our very own pigs and wolves as you can see below. During our Aistear playtime, the 'Construction' group created the three different houses in the story.
For the month of October, we worked really hard on our songs and poems for the Halloween concert. After weeks of practice, we dressed up in our spookiest costumes and put on a great show for the school and for our parents. All the girls were very proud of themselves on such a tremendous achievement.
For Space Week, we read a book called 'Back to Earth with a Bump!', we learned about all the different planets in Space. We discussed and wrote a list of what we would bring with us if we travelled to Space! We also made our very own astronauts.
For the month of November, we are learning about the Post Office. We have learned that people can do lots of things in the post office such as posting letters and parcels, saving money, paying bills and applying for passports. During playtime we have a very busy classroom with the girls creating their own stamps, postcards and letters. The Construction group are making their own post boxes out of recyclable materials. The Role Play group are running their very own post office and the Playdough group are making parcels, postal vans, envelopes and more. When we returned from Midterm we even received a letter from our class mascot, Toby the Teddy!
For our Art lesson this week, we had great fun making our own post boxes from recycyled toilet rolls.
As part of Science week, we were very lucky to have Ms. Walsh and her class come visit us from the Rainbow Room. They showed us how to use Bee Bots, these are robots designed for teaching sequencing, estimation and problem-solving. Our girls became mini-coders as they even got a chance to manouevre the Bee Bots around the classroom! Thank you to Ms. Walsh and her class for giving us a demonstration and letting us try them out for ourselves.
We have also been doing 'Food Dudes' in the month of November. Food Dudes is a curriculum-linked healthy eating programme which encourages the students to eat more fruit and vegetables. It is based on repetitive tasting, rewards and positive role models (The Food Dudes!). Each day the girls have been receiving letters and viewing short videos from the Food Dudes. They have earned stickers on their sticker chart and rewards such as pedometers and pencil cases. They have tasted apples, bananas, oranges, grapes, cucumbers, peppers, carrots and babycorn.
