This week, Mr Wilson’s class embarked on an exciting journey into the world of cartography and map skills. After studying Ordnance Survey maps and learning how to represent features through symbols, the children used rice to create unique landmasses. They traced around the irregular shapes formed by the rice, turning them into realistic maps, and then added their own cities and landmarks using different symbols. To give our maps a classic touch, we even lined them and coffee-stained them to look like treasure maps.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable series of lessons, and we gained a lot of valuable insights into maps. Who knows, maybe we will even find some buried treasure!
