Sign Language Spelling in 4th Class
Mr. Wilson’s 4th class has embraced a creative approach to learning Irish vocabulary and spelling structures by integrating Irish Sign Language (ISL) into their lessons. This innovative method not only enhances language skills but also fosters a deeper connection between spoken, written, and signed communication. It is also very inclusive and provides a very valuable communication skill for the future.
By learning to spell words using ISL, students develop a multi-sensory understanding of new vocabulary. The physical act of signing each letter reinforces memory, making it easier for students to recall spelling patterns and word structures. This approach is particularly helpful for visual and kinaesthetic learners, who benefit from seeing and doing rather than just hearing.
