Exploring Maps in Mr. Wilson’s 4th Class 🗺️🧭📍
This week, the girls in Mr. Wilson’s 4th class embraced their inner cartographers as they explored the world of maps. They studied Ordnance Survey maps of Ireland, learning how symbols represent different places and features on a map. This helped them understand how maps convey important geographical information in a clear and structured way.
We then discussed how setting plays a crucial role in storytelling and examined famous fantasy maps from stories such as The Lord of the Rings. Inspired by these creative worlds, the students set out to design their own maps. To start, we poured rice onto a page and traced around where it landed, creating irregular yet realistic landmasses.
