Exploring Division in Mr Wilson's 4th Class
Hands-On Exploration of Division!
This week, Mr. Wilson’s 4th class delved into the world of division with a fun and engaging hands-on activity using lollipop sticks! The children had the opportunity to experience maths in a tangible way, making the concept of division more accessible and enjoyable.
Using lollipop sticks, the class explored how division works by physically grouping and sharing the sticks. This activity helped the children see that division isn’t just about finding a quotient—it’s about understanding how numbers can be split into equal groups. By arranging the sticks into different group sizes, the children gained a deeper understanding of what it means to divide numbers.
As we worked through the activity, we also discovered the important connection between multiplication and division. The children quickly noticed that if 20 sticks could be divided into 4 groups of 5, then multiplying 4 by 5 would bring us back to 20. This realization helped solidify their understanding of how division and multiplication are interconnected—essentially two sides of the same coin!
Stay tuned for more updates from our budding mathematicians!
