4th Class Self Watering Plant Pots!

4th Mar 2025

Mr. Wilson’s 4th class have been busy combining science, sustainability, and gardening in a fantastic hands-on project! The children designed and created their own self-watering flower pots using recycled materials before planting sunflower seeds to watch them grow.

🌱 How We Made Our Self-Watering Pots:

The class reused plastic bottles to build their planters, cutting them into two sections. The bottom half holds water, while a piece of string or fabric acts as a wick, drawing water up to the soil when needed—keeping the sunflowers hydrated without daily watering!

♻️ Why It’s Great for the Environment:

By upcycling plastic bottles, the children learned about reducing waste and reusing materials in a creative way. Their self-watering design also helps save water, making it a great eco-friendly project!

🌻 Planting Our Sunflowers:

Once the pots were ready, the children filled them with soil, carefully planted their sunflower seeds, and placed them in a sunny spot. Now, they are eagerly watching their little plants grow day by day!

This project was a brilliant way to mix STEM learning, environmental awareness, and gardening—and the class can’t wait to see their sunflowers bloom! Stay tuned for updates as we track their progress. 🌞🌱
