4th Class Junior Achievement Program Learning About Sustainability! 🌍🌱

2nd Apr 2025

Recently in 4th class, we had a very special guest in our classroom! Mrs. Catherine Healy, Clíona’s mum, joined us to deliver the Junior Achievement Program, which this year focuses on an important theme—sustainability and our planet. 🌿🌎

During our first session, we explored the journey of a simple banana—from where it’s grown to how it travels across the world before arriving on our supermarket shelves. 🍌✈️🚢 We were surprised to learn about the carbon footprint involved in transporting food and how small changes in our choices can help reduce environmental impact.

We did a brilliant activity where we traced each journey the banana takes using string, and before long, we had a intricate spider web style pattern! It was mind-blowing to see how much is involved!

We also discussed ways to shrink our carbon footprint, from buying local produce to reducing food waste and even choosing eco-friendly packaging. The session was interactive, engaging, and thought-provoking, making us all more aware of the role we play in protecting our planet. 🌱

This fantastic program will continue over the next few weeks, with more exciting lessons and discussions ahead. A huge thank you to Catherine for sharing her time and knowledge with us—we can’t wait for the next lesson!

Stay tuned for more updates on our journey towards a greener future! 💚♻️
