Beaumont Girls School, Beaumont, Cork

1ST Prize in the Fred O’Connell National Parent Council (NPC) Awards

27th Sep 2022
We’re delighted to announce that The Travel Committee in conjunction with Beaumont Girls & Boys Schools have won 1st prize in the Fred O’Connell NPC Award.  This is in recognition for all the work that each and everyone in the school community has put into making our routes to school SAFER, GREENER & HEALTHIER.   There has been a huge body of work put into this.  A very brief summary of what has been achieved in the last 18mths alone:
  • Car Free Zone – manned by parents daily
  • Monthly Cycle Bus – weekly in finer months
  • Daily Walking Bus in Term 1 2022 to build confidence
  • New Signage deterring non-essential cars into our Car Free Zone
  • New Road Painting, an enlarged Set Down Area and a designated wheelchair space outside the main entrance
  • Planter Boxes and Planting outside the Main school gates to make it a more inviting area for our pedestrians
All of this has been achieved and continues to be made possible by the amazing school community that enable it everyday.  So thank you, in no particular order to:
  • The wonderful boys and girls who walk / scoot / cycle to school from their homes or from designated Drop & Go Points.  And their parents who support them every step of the way.
  • The relentless and ever smiling group of parents who man the entrance at Woodvale Road everyday, regardless of the weather.
  • Our budding gardeners taking care of the planter boxes and triangle and parents who continue to donate some lovely flowers.
  • The energetic group of parents that shepherd the Cycle Buses and demonstrate great balance and pedal power, often cycling one-handed as they support a child up that final hill to school.
  • Our ever-patient neighbours who support all our Travel initiatives.
  • Our teaching staff who nurture our children every day in our mantra of SAFER, GREENER & HEALTHIER.
  • Our local Councillors who have supported us with ward funding and road painting.
  • And last and by no means least, our every joyful, Traffic Warden, Benita.
Thank you – now let’s keep it up and build further for the year ahead.
